Twitter Helps Illustrate Mood Of The Nation

Over time, Americans have developed their own generalizations and stereotypes of their fellow countrymen in certain regions: East Coast, rude; West Coast, lazy; South, a little slow.  Fortunately for us, researchers at Harvard and Northeastern University have assembled a guide via Twitter, the Census, and Google Maps with information from the last three years on how the average American in each state feels (in regard to happiness) at a certain time.  While looking at the map, three interesting observations are that people from California and Florida are generally happy, New Yorkers and citizens of Louisiana are hardly ever happy, and no one is really upbeat from 2 pm to 4 pm.  An obvious trait of this study is that everyone is happier on the weekend, and who can really be upset with a two-day vacation every five days.  Keep in mind that Thursday afternoons are the absolute low-point for the entire week, so prepare yourself for some venom around the office right about now.
