Quit Facebook Day: A Day That Won’t Be Remembered
The official “Quit Facebook Day” was yesterday and on all accounts it seems as if it was a failure. 34,799 people signed up on the groups website pledging to quit Facebook, while 6,984 “liked” their Facebook page. Needless to say that all those people didn’t actually leave the service when it came time to actually pull the trigger. The fact of the matter is Facebook is too important to leave, even with all the privacy concerns people are having these days. Facebook probably wouldn’t even notice 34,000 individuals leaving out of the 400 million users they already have. While we’d love to applaud the organizers for their valiant effort we simply can’t, it’s like a failed mass suicide attempt where nobody wanted to drink the special Kool-Aid. The only thing they MAY be able to claim is pushing Facebook to make a public announcement over privacy changes due to the potentially bad press received from a small band of users wanting to stage a mass exodus. We’ll let them believe that was all them.
