Why Really Go Places When You Can Work in 3D?

Why really go places when you can work in 3D? Why allot company money to flying people all over the country for training events and meetings? Why ever change out of your pajamas? These are all the questions the thinkers at Immercio are trying to make your company think about due to their 3-D virtual reality business world.

Before I go into the product, I want to take a moment and talk about my first impressions encountering Immercio’s online presence.  For a “cutting edge” virtual reality training product, www.Immercio.com is exactly the opposite of “cutting edge”.  With an awkwardly embedded Meebo chatbox, a very inactive blog, and an overall layout feel screaming free template, I was a bit taken a back on first site but I decided to plow onward.

I wanted to know just how Immercio worked, and then I found out, and simply shook my head.  Immercio works on the popular virtual reality game Second Life; yes that’s right, its not actually it’s own program, it’s leaching onto a game. The concept of a virtual world meeting space seems a little unnecessary.  We have these crazy things called conference calls, video phones, and those awesome Cisco System commercials where the Italian guy says he’s going to LA and simply turns on his phone.  If you want to stay away from actual phones and only deal with the computer check out www.FreeConferenceCall.com, it’s essentially going to accomplish exactly what Immercio wants to but without creepy 3D people talking to you on your screen.  I know it seems like I haven’t said one positive thing about the program, but realistically you could just have each person in your company buy a copy of The Sims, all log in online and you’ll create your own Immercio conference meeting.

My opinion, use Cisco Telepresence and actually see what people look like rather than lame 3-D renderings.  You still wont have to leave the office but you will have to change out of those pajamas, or buy yourself a business bib.
