Subway Map DO NOT WANT

Putting a new spin on an iconic design is always tricky.  With redesigning Massimo Vignelli’s NYC Subway Map, Triboro Design has done away with multiple inks and created the map with only fluorescent red.  Upon first glance, besides being obviously attention-grabbing, it seems a little less intimidating.  As if it’s saying, “Hey, look at me.  I’m just one color; I can’t be that hard to use, right?”

Doing away with the color coding of the train lines, Triboro splits the lines individually and shows each train on its own track, instead of combining shared lines.  You can see where each train stops, instead of just listing every train at each station.  The new map itself is very clean, though we have to respectfully disagree with Kitsune Noir saying that the maps don’t want you to get lost – the one-color maps say more, “LOCALS ONLY. Know your way around or go home, bumpkin.”  Add a little more color however… then maybe we’ll all desire it as an app on our phones.
