Google Bike Maps

Earlier today, Google quietly released a new update for Google Maps that allows for directions for cyclists. Having been a cyclist in Los Angeles for two years, I have to say that this feature was a long time coming. The best routes through the city aren’t necessarily the same for cyclists as they are for drivers or pedestrians, so back in the day, cyclists pretty much had to go on word of mouth and personal experience. We recommend that mobile users memorize the route beforehand, it’s hard enough dodging cars that have no clue how to deal with bicycles on the road, we’re sure that it’s much harder to do when you keep looking down at your smartphone every half a block.
