Cases Full of Craftsmanship

“Historically exceptional craftsmanship was the norm now it is the exception.” Sarah Williams‘ luggage collection takes this statement, challenges it and, yet, further exemplifies it.  Done as a graduate project at London College of Fashion, Crafted Fashion features luggages and suitcases in unconventional shapes, pushing creativity and craftsmanship.  The style and build call back to the historic quality missing in much of today’s mass produced items, but by adding the twists and (literal) turns in the pieces, brings them forward into a modern day context.

From the outside, the pieces look impractical, as if they would not fit items properly, but when opened up, the ingenuity of the designs really shine.  The way the pieces are organized in compartments make them quite useful, and much more than just visually striking.  Being a graduate project, you probably won’t find any of these in your local department stores any time soon, but they’re something to think about when you’re shopping for luggages and inspecting them for quality and craftsmanship – because you’re at Marshall’s and want to make sure that it is indeed a good deal.
